This will be the first of many Thirsty Thursdays by LoveATX. LoveATX aims to develop a holistic culture, encouraging all to live and love wholly, respecting our self, the earth, and all inhabitants as one organism. The evening will start with a Chakraology class by Johnny Barnett from 7pm-8:30pm accompanied by reiki masters and healing space. Then we will proceed with the awesomeness.

What is Chakraology?

Purpose of Life 101 – takes a look at our most essential “parts”- the 7 Chakras and uses the symbolism of the 7 planets of ancient Astrology (yes, there’s a reason the numbers are the same) to enhance our understanding of what the Chakras are, what they do, and what you do with them.
A simple, 7-part answer to the question “Why am I here?”

The beginners course – that you were never taught in school! In this introductory class we trace 2 energetic paths- up from the Earth and entering the body at the Root Chakra, and down from the Cosmos, entering the body through the Crown Chakra. As we touch on each Chakra, astrological symbolism is used to help broaden our understanding – much in the way Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, the Ancient Greeks and many others have used symbolic language to convey universal truths. The combined imagery of the 7 Chakras creates a blueprint for the Human experience

Creation Flame‘s weekly services are where our community comes together to share space, positive energy, skills, art, information and mutual upliftment.  Our gatherings include discussion of spiritual and sustainable topics, group meditation, vocalization exercises, and educational workshops and videos.  Often we have fire spinning, singing, dancing, and music afterwards.  If you have a song, instrument, poem or anything else to share, please bring it! Deep Green Resistance Austin brings you another edible and medicinal plant nature walk.

Do you feel like a tourist in our local forests? Are the trails painted with a sea of ‘green’? Wanna learn about your local plants and develop a deeper connection with them? There are many edible, medicinal, and otherwise useful plants right here in Central Texas! Wouldn’t you like to get to know them?

Join DGR and some local naturalists for a free Edible and Medicinal Plant Walk.

We’ll meet near the Hillside Theatre, an outdoor stage, at the head of the Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail. If you can’t find us, call 512-537-3476.

Deep Green Resistance is a movement geared towards reestablishing our connection with the natural world, and dismantling the systems that are destroying our home. The walk will end with a brief discussion about how getting to know our land relates to the DGR strategy and analysis.

Our last walk was a good time. Thirty folks showed up! We learned what worked and what didn’t work about the last one, and this one will be even better.

Third Coast Sunday Launch Party: Celebrating Progressive Politics and Radical Roots

Across the country and around the world, people are rejecting old systems of concentrated wealth and power and calling for a more just and sustainable world. This radical spirit has created new connections and reinvigorated groups that have long been fighting for progressive social change. That same energy is pulsing through Austin, opening up new opportunities for collaboration on analysis and action.

In this spirit, a group of young activists is launching a monthly gathering for progressives interested both in critiquing the old order and creating a new world. What needs to be torn down, and what needs to be built up? This monthly gathering will be a place to share ideas, build connections, and find opportunities for action — both for those new to political organizing and those who’ve been in the fight for decades.

The first gathering will provide an opportunity for folks to get to know each other. There will be plenty of time for informal conversation while enjoying locally brewed beer from Black Star Co-op, Via 313 pizza, and the always popular vegan donuts from Red Rabbit Bakery. Music will be provided by local jazz musicians Alec MacIntyre & Friends.

With the rise of farmer’s markets and more and more chefs sourcing their ingredients from local farms, consumers are now able to meet and talk to the people who are growing their food.

LOCAL discusses the rise of the local food movement, the challenges of sourcing locally and how it’s become a growing part of the Austin, Texas food scene.
